Merciless testing

Different test criteria have to be applied depending on the application. They all include a "merciless" test procedure. Only candidates that possess all required properties without any fault can pass the EPHY MESS quality test. The quality-related measurement and test equipment is calibrated regularly and is subject to continuous monitoring.

Temperature tests from -50°C to +550°C

With the help of a metal block based temperature calibrator the properties of a test object can be determined in a gaseous medium (air) at given temperatures (+35°C ... +550°C). Tolerances of platinum resistance thermometers are measured using a heating/cooling thermostat in liquid media at temperatures  between -50°C and  +180°C.

High voltage acceptance test

In a range between 500 V to 5000 V AC at 50 Hz, destructive and non-destructive tests are performed in a high voltage tester to determine the performance characteristics for clearances, creepage distances and solid insulation of electrical equipment.

Partial discharge tests

The quality of the insulation is the main task of the partial discharge test in which, for instance, the material-typical breakdown field strength, the inception voltage, the extinction voltage and the level of partial discharge are studied. The available test bed enables the determination of the performance characteristics for clearances, creepage distances and solid insulation of electrical equipment for high voltage tests above 5 kV.

Insulation resistance test

A DC voltage max. 5000 V DC is generated by the instrument and applied to the test specimin to measure the circulating current. The insulation resistance is reported in the range of a few Ohms to TerraOhm.

Microscopic examinations

Stereo microscopic laboratory tests with up to 180-fold magnification are used for quality-related product testing.  In addition computer-assisted macro camera imaging is used for the presentation of quality-relevant materials, components or assemblies.

Pressure test

Pressure tests are performed in a chamber for the range between 0.5 to 8 bar in a gaseous medium (air) and for the range between 0.5 to 11 bar in liquid medium (water). Special tests are available upon request.

Tensile test

The tensile strength of the connection between sensor and the attached cable is an important qualification parameter of EPHY-MESS components. With a universal testing machine for tensile strength measurements can be performed in the range from 1N to 1000N. The results of the measurement data will be documented by means of a characteristic and summary table.

Climate test

The simulation of environmental influences also takes place in the EPHY-MESS laboratories. Test conditions vary in the temperature range between - 70°C to + 180°C and a relative humidity between 40% and 98%.

Vibration characteristics

Using an electro-dynamic vibration test components and assemblies are examined to check how they react to vibration generated during operation or during transport. Options include vibration and shock tests according to DIN EN 60068 standard or special IEC 61373 standard for railway applications.

Thermal response time

The response time is the time it takes for a temperature sensor to measure a defined part of a temperature jump as a change in resistance. The test can be performed in flowing water or in flowing air. For their sensors, EPHY-MESS determined the time t = 0.5 and t = 0.9 for 50% and 90% of the temperature jump. The response time of a sensor is essentially determined by its construction. A skillful, knowledge-based choice of material for the application enables an optimization of this value.
