Cable resistance thermometers

General

Wire based RTDs are assembled using standard Pt100 sensors according to EN 60751. Fitted with heat shrink tubing, metal or ceramic sleeve, these simple temperature sensors are the commonly used solutions to cope with many different temperature measurement tasks. They are mainly used in the low to medium temperature range from -40°C to 260°C. Special versions with an operating temperature of up to 400°C are part of the portfolio. Nominal resistance values of 500Ω or 1000Ω  as well as other materials such as Nickel (Ni) or copper (Cu) are optional.

Application

The sensors are mainly used for thermal control of the winding of electrical machines. They are also suitable for measuring temperature in laboratory and pilot plants, in gaseous, liquid or solid media and are used in hazardous areas. Moisture resistant, ATEX-approved or particularly high-voltage-resistant sensors with a dielectric strength of up to 20 kV are produced in various, mostly strain relief designs. Custom tailored dimensions or supply lines are available.

Structure / Functional principle

The different cable resistance thermometers consist of a basic sensor with securely connected cable. As well as the standard Pt100 measuring resistors (M-OK), thermistors (PTC or NTC) or silicon sensors (KTY) can also be used. The basic sensors are connected to the cable by welding (resistance welding, laser welding, etc.), soldering (soft or hard soldering) or crimping. Afterwards, the sensor is configured with a shrinkable tube, a metal or ceramic tube for protection against external mechanical influences. The measuring range of an individual sensor type varies depending on its insulation.
