Explosion Protection

About 80% of all incurred dust in industrial production are flammable and can, if an explosive dust-air mixture develops, lead to an explosion.

Directive 2014/34/EU

In many industrial areas flammable materials, in the form of gases, vapours, mists or dust, are handled. Combined with oxygen these flammable substances can create an explosive atmosphere. To prevent ignition in such conditions manufacturers of sensors and other safety systems must ensure that the products they develop are – even if defective – never a potential cause of ignition. The protection against other hazards, such as electric shock emanating from sensors, must be considered.

Safety from the start

In the European Union all aspects of explosion protection are regulated through the ATEX Directives (ATEX = ATmosphères EXplosibles - explosive atmospheres). The European Directive 2014/34/EU covers devices, protective systems and components for use in hazardous areas. Since 20.04.2016 only devices that comply with this directive may be marketed.


We were already well prepared before the launch or revision of directives, and have been producing temperature sensors for use in hazardous areas since 2000.
